Although this isn’t unprecedented, it’s only the second such excommunication to occur in my lifetime, and it probably has created a little consternation for some folks. Here are my thoughts on what we can take away from this event.
The expulsion and excommunication of a general authority within LDS is rare. The last time it took place: September 1, 1989, when George Lee was faulted for "apostasy and other conduct unbecoming...released as a General Authority Seventy and being granted emeritus status, he has also been released as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy.
